Merlin

Lean Consulting Package

Most healthcare organizations do not need consulting engagements that last four days a week, for two years or more. Especially when the outcome is a one-time pop to the balance sheet that is offset by outrageous fees and produces no ongoing results.

This is why Excalibur approaches consulting differently. In an industry that is data rich and intelligence poor, we ground our consulting services with proven analytics. Then, we partner with you on an ongoing basis to teach, support, and drive education-centric, data, and metric driven principles for managing your organization. This lean, or light, approach to consulting, supported by advance analytics, results in a sustainable relationship where the client is King, and enjoys behind the scenes support from a Merlin.

Analytics Enabled Outsourcing Package

To realize increased revenue, the best practice is not to hire more billing clerks. Why? In your A/R, there are literally hundreds of thousands of variables, volatility is high, and each claim is its own perilous adventure. But much more value can be gained when you replace billing clerks with Portfolio Consultants who have mastered the art and science that is Revenue Cycle Management.

That is exactly what we make possible. Let us take portions of your Accounts Receivable to Avalon to heal and thrive. Supported by analytics, segmentation and predictive science, our Portfolio Consultants become mini-CFOs and have a well-documented history of converting agent A/R into Cash.

A/R Valuation Package

Excalibur provides industry-leading expertise in the A/R Valuation and Reserves process, so we can help you create a business culture with the following attributes:

  • The revenue cycle operations team will understand the finance view of the A/R and how Revenue is viewed from its source, not from its current residual position.
  • The revenue cycle operations team will understand the Income Statement consequences of being at variance to budget (along with other Net Revenue Imperatives).
  • Weekly and mid-month adequacy studies will be performed by an actionable, highly automated method that avoids month-end surprises and endless out-of-model adjustments.
  • A triangulation A/R valuation method will be implemented using ENR, MNR and the Balance Methods at the account/txn level to determine the asset value of the active accounts receivable from a multi-prism “triangulated” view that is more sophisticated than, and pleasing to, external auditors and endeavors, rather than being conservative or aggressive, to get the valuation “right”.

Radical Commitment

Radical Commitment to Defect and Exception Driven Performance Management Approach

Excalibur helps clients live by Key Leading and/or Key Relational Indicators that create an intense focus on managing what “didn’t happen”, pinpointing on variances and volatility, and making only the most strategic touches during the business day.

Personalized Solutions

Personalized Solutions

One size does not fit all. Excalibur employs a Best Practices approach and principles, but does not promote a cookie cutter approach to unique client needs. We consider all important dynamics when recommending, implementing and sustaining change.

Method Driven

Method Driven

Excalibur uses proven methods, such as Dispositional Receivables Management, to create a playbook that aligns the organization and takes our discipline of touching the right accounts and the right time with the right strategy to new heights.

Holistic View

Holistic View

Excalibur sees beyond the departmental view of the revenue cycle and uses a cross-disciplinary view, including all functional areas directly involved with the rapid, compliant conversion of Gross Revenue into Cash. This often includes Scheduling, Pre-Processing, Care Management, Patient Access, HIM, Revenue Cycle Systems and Controls, along with Patient Financial Services.

Interconnectivity

Interconnectivity

Additionally, an increasing burden is placed on revenue cycle leaders to be intimately involved in;Net Revenue and A/R Valuation topics, Revenue Integrity, Compliance, Systems and Decision Support. To this end, the structure must support interaction, liaison, or management of these functional processes within the larger context of healthcare financial management.

About Us

Excalibur Data Driven Performance Management is a healthcare finance and revenue cycle operations performance management, analytics and outsourcing organization based in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Zane Newitt, the firm’s Founder and CEO, began his career working in diverse provider settings while simultaneously pursuing formal education in the field. Additionally, Excalibur has enjoyed the unique opportunity to build experience by working with the broadest possible range of clients; ranging from Critical Access and rural facilities to large for-profit healthcare systems. The fact that Excalibur leadership and staff have had their “hands stained with the red ink of the UB04” gives us a unique perspective, has helped us create a rare hybrid of custom solutions that are combined with universally proven revenue cycle management principles and practices.

Excalibur’s science-based goals setting method, and our radical commitment to a data-driven decision making and performance management culture yields better (and more sustainable) results than some “Big 5” cookie cutter or unapplied academic approaches, which are too often recommended by those who have no actual work experience in a hospital or physician practice setting.
